And I love that it’s finally kosher to love Christmas music!
Yesterday at church, we sang Christmas hymns. It was a pleasant surprise – I’ve been in plenty of churches over the years where they restrict Christmas hymns to the Christmas Eve service because they are “just traditional” and “not worshipful” enough. We aren’t talking about “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” People don’t even want to sing “Silent Night.” I don’t get it.
I think Christmas Music - with a few exceptions – is the best music there is. Even the good non-religious stuff is whimsical and optimistic.
But Christmas hymns are wonderful, and in my opinion, worth singing year-round. When is NOT a good time to sing at the top of your lungs, “Mild He lay His glory by, born that man no more may die – born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth”? But maybe that’s just me.
Anyway, so I was very happy to get to sing some Christmas songs in church. I’m also looking forward to actually going to a Christmas Even service this year. We’ve never done one before – we usually have a couple of family gatherings that night.
I’m so excited. I love Christmas music :)
