I’d like to take today to wish a very happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day to all my millies! The best part of this crazy journey of Army life has been the amazing spouses I’ve met along the way.

I was totally unprepared for the community we would find when SoldierMan joined the Army. This automatic group of peers, mentors, leaders, and all-around amazing people was a wonderful surprise.

Of course, my first interaction with milspouses was through the blogs. Many of you I’ve been friends with from the beginning. And I know I already recently talked about this, but I would never have made it this far without you.

And pooh-pooh on those writing this off as a “made up holiday.” (Most of them are, you know. Hello, Kwanza.) It’s impossible to overstate how essential the spouse community is the to the military. And I say this as someone who has been as fed up and burned out with FRGs and Rear Ds and Mandatory Fun Times as anyone. But we are the ones who keep the soldiers running on time, who keep the homefires burning, who keep the communities where we live engaged positively with the military, who support and build the morale of the military culture out of our own personal time, talents, and resources. The Department of Defense needs us. Whether they always acknowledge it or not.

Claim your day, millies. You’ve earned it.

And to show my appreciation in as concretely a way as I can with all this PCS insanity going on (it’s the life!) I’m having a flash weekend giveaway for all you military spouses out there. Enter using the rafflecopter below!
