I have decided to take the plunge and participate in NaNoWriMo this year.
I had thought about taking this year off because November is going to be a crazy month. I’ve got Thanksgiving and family coming in for Thanksgiving (YAY!), a separate long weekend, multiple functions/meetings with OCSA, portrait sessions, as well as general regular life, like still going to the gym and to the movies….
But, I took last year off because, well, SoldierMan was deploying and I didn’t want to spend my “free time” glued to my laptop any more than necessary.
So since I already skipped last year, I feel compelled to jump in again this year.
Wait a second:
Do you even know what NaNoWriMo is?
National Novel Writing Month is an online event where thousands of aspiring novelists commit to producing 50,000 words of fiction between November 1 and November 30. I’ve participate 4 separate years. I’ve “won” 2.
This year, I’m going back for more.
NaNoWriMo is usually why November is my blog hiatus month. I’m not really sure what the blog will look like in November. My goal, as usual, is to finish early enough that I can enjoy Thanksgiving with my family without feeling like my laptop is glaring at me behind me back. We’ll see how that goes.
Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo? It’s actually a really fun challenge. You just write. Write crap. Write totally unfiltered. Just get the words down on paper. Did you know the average novel goes through 5 complete redrafts before publication? (Not counting minor revisions) Makes it much more liberating to bang out that first crappy draft.
Thanks, Creative Writing degree, for that handy info.
If you are participating in NaNoWriMo, let me know so we can link up on the site or on twitter or something.
Via con Dios, WriMos!!
