Today is a milestone. Today SoldierMan and I have been married for 5 years.
I know people like to talk about how you make plans and then find out that life has plans of its own. But oh my goodness. We really had no clue. At that moment we were sure we knew exactly where we would be today. We couldn’t have been more wrong.
The thing is, no one tells you – or maybe they do, but it doesn’t sink in – that the plans don’t really matter. It’s not about where you end up. It’s about who you end up there with.
When I was 13, I told all my friends that I had met the guy I was going to marry. It was SoldierMan. We were inseparable after knowing each other 5 minutes. Well, except for some teenage drama and some “finding yourself” business in college. But he’s always been my best friend. As I say, he’s probably the only person in the world I’d rather talk to on the phone than via text. That’s saying a lot.
He gives me stability when I’m rocky and adventure when I’m stagnant. He’s always encouraged me to pursue greatness.
He has always been a hard worker, ever since he was a kid. He gives 110% to everything he does. He’s very generous. He has a fighting spirit, and a playful one. He loves my family. He loves the puppies and spoils them with me. He left a dream job to follow his dreams of being a soldier. And he’s gorgeous, which doesn’t hurt :)
5 years. They’ve flown by, for both of us, I know. Truthfully, we never would have imagined what those 5 years have looked like, once upon a time. Not that knowing would have changed anything. We’ve had 5 years of adventures. And I’m so glad I had him to share them with.
You’re still my favorite.
