Oh, Not Much

We spent the weekend primarily recovering from SoldierMan’s 2 weeks of night shift work. I’m so glad that’s over. I can handle staying here at night by myself…it’s the “trying to get something done during the day without waking up the person in the other room who was up all night” part I didn’t like. Needless to say, it wasn’t my most productive period ever.

The weekend was better. He was getting back to a normal schedule and I was able to vacuum before 7:00 pm. One of the things I did, that has been a long time coming, was cleaning out my jewelry box. Yes, I said cleaning out. I have had TONS of random jewelry. And I never wore it. Because it was all piled and tangled and messy and I just never felt like digging through it all. So, I finally sat down and decided it was time to untangle all my necklaces and pair up all my earrings and give everything a good scrubbing.

I saw a pin that said to make a paste with just water and baking soda and to use that on your jewelry. And it worked fantastically. Most of my stuff looks brand-new now. And it works on basically any kind of surface, so I was able to use it on my charm bracelet, which has everything from real silver to enamel to plastic on it. Perfect.

And I got rid of a lot of stuff. Single studs whose partners I lost years ago but was holding onto in case they magically “turned up.” Broken necklaces I kept because “one day I’ll fix this.” (riiiiiight…) Giant candy cane earrings that, sorry, I will never wear. I mean like two inches long, bright red and white. Sorry to whoever gave them to me, but that’s not gonna happen.

AND – I organized my necklaces, finally:

I have a few simple chain necklaces that are still in the box on my dresser, but these are the bulkier ones that don’t fit in a box and were just in a crumpled heap on top. (I know. I am ashamed.)

That pin board has been hanging in our room for…oh, two years…waiting for necklaces to be pinned on them. One of those things I just never got around to, because it didn’t involve mammals living or dying. You know what I mean? But, I got around it it the other day and I am SO happy. Now that I can see the stuff, I will actually use it. That phrase “out of sight, out of mind” most definitely applies to me. The best part was finding special pieces that had been given to me by friends and relatives over the years. Lots of memories.

Am I freaking out over jewelry? Yeah, I guess. But part of the reason is that it has all been sitting in there for so long, not being used, well that’s kind of like wasting money, isn’t it? Now I can get some use out of them.

Okay, moving on….

The other thing I did was play around with some very simple nail art. I had to get my game day manicure on (lot of good that did…next time I’ll put the capes on the puppies, too, just to be safe) and I wanted to try something a little different. A while back, I bought some nail art tools on Amazon. So I played around with them, a little….

I know, it’s not that impressive for nail art. But I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. That’s my left hand, btw. My right hand didn’t turn out quite as good. But that’s why we practice. :) I’m already brainstorming ideas for future themes….

And the other big news was we got our Magical Express luggage tags!!! In case you don’t know, X amount of days before your Walt Disney World Resort vacation, if you have registered for FREE Magical Express transportation from the airport, they send you personalized luggage tags for your checked luggage. You just put them on your checked bags at your home airport, and when you arrive in Orlando, you don’t even see your bags until you get to your resort hotel room and they are there “magically” waiting for you to arrive. (Okay, usually about an hour after you arrive, but you’re in the parks by then anyway, so it’s the same diff.)

I would have posted a picture but they have our full names, travel dates and which resort we’re staying at printed on them. Blacking all that out would pretty much negate the purpose of posting a pic, so you’ll just have to believe me when I say they arrived. Anyway, it’s exciting! We’re going to Disney World!!

  2. I really like the way you organized your jewelry! I have to do something with mine. All of my jewelry is literally in a cardboard box from when I moved 2 years ago. I have pinned a lot of ideas on Pinterest, just haven't done anything yet.

Of course, I love your mani!!
