12 in 12: January

1. MIND | Read at least one book a month, new or old, fiction or non-fiction. Memorize one Bible verse a week.
Myrna Loy: The Only Good Girl In Hollywood – Finished
The Hunger Games series – Finished
Currently reading: God’s' Wisdom in Proverbs, by Dan Phillips
Joshua 1:8 "This book of the law must not depart from your mouth. You are to recite it day and night so that you will carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will succeed and prosper in whatever you do."
Isaiah 1:17 "Learn to do what is right. Seek justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the cause of the fatherless. Plead the widow's cause."
Matthew 5:17 “Let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in Heaven.”
2. BODY | Work out 3x a week, minimum. Meal replacement shakes 1-2 times a day.
Did okay. Room for improvement but I am on the right track.
3. SOUL | Stick to a Bible reading plan.
Find a church.
Do a daily Bible study.
Pick a verse for the year.
Bible reading plan has been mostly consistent. Started a blog to help me stay accountable for my daily Bible reading. Still no church. But I have a verse for the year:
Joshua 1:9 "Haven't I told you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go."
4. PLATFORM | Write at least 2 articles a month for the Bigs
Check and check.
Amend to add: grow follower count on twitter and facebook.
Which is my sly way of asking you to follow. :)
5. BLOG | Post 3-5 times a week.
Host one giveaway a month.
6. LOVE | Follow "Power of a Praying Wife" every month for one year.
Plan more creative date nights.
Well, no. But we did go to a Chaplain’s couples retreat last weekend. Post and pics to follow.
7. TIME MANAGEMENT | Plot out to-do lists for the week every Monday. "Stop feeling guilty when people you don't know ask you to do something you can't do."
I've certainly done worse. Slacked off on the to-do list making but I think I've done okay as far as making sure things are done when they need to be.
8. STEWARDSHIP | Record spending and stick to the budget. Work the couponing like I'm being paid (because I am). Tithe consistently. Seek out charitable opportunities. Maximize my Swagbucks efforts (might conflict with TIME MANAGEMENT.)
This is actually the area where I think I/we have done the best. It's been one of our best months ever financially. So, great big check mark here!
9. CREATION | Get current on scrapbooking by the end of the year. Learn how to use new sewing machine for more than pot holders. Make something I want to wear. Plan and actually execute Christmas baskets this year. Take one picture every day, preferably with my camera.
So far, so good. Didn’t get to go to scrapbook club this month but the sewing machine is getting a workout.
10. KINDNESS | "Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty."
Hope so?
11. KEEP IN TOUCH | Regularly update email, photos, Facebook, & twitter.
12. WRITING | Edit NaNoWriMo2010 project. Complete NaNoWriMo2011 first draft/Continue research. Participate in NaNoWriMo2012
Oy, big fail this month. I started out great, doing lots of good storyboarding and character exercises. Then I got more caught up with reading than with writing. Next month I'll have a lot of time to myself, particularly in the evenings, so hopefully I can get back in the habit.

How have you done with your goals for 2012 so far?

  1. Good progress...keep it up! :)

  2. So far lost 26 pounds and keep shoveling money into savings!! Plus literally just got "Power of a Praying Wife" on Kindle thanks to you. :) Love this post!!

  3. RE #12: Have you looked into Scrivener at all? It's pretty cheap if you have the code from "winning" nanowrimo 2010. I plan to use it on my next project. Really good for people who like planning their stories out while they write them.

I was nice and didn't turn on word verifications. Please reciprocate by having your reply-to email set and not posting anonymously.
