EDIT: TV Tuesday: We're Back!

Oh my goodness, I have waited all summer for the new fall shows! I know, it's pathetic. And I have to say, I don't like the way TV is going back to the Spring season/Fall season schedule. I liked it better, right after the writer's strike, when they premiered new material year-round. But, then, they don't ask me.

There are a few shows not coming back till next month, so we'll do another special "Premiere" edition of TV Tuesday then as well. But for September:
  • Amazing Race is back, y'all! I am so excited!!

This is probably the September premiere I was looking forward to most. I think I could write a blurb for each of the teams, but I'll restrain myself (since I know only a handful of you watch it with me - which is a crying shame - Olivia, I'm looking at you! ;)) I don't have any real favorites yet. It was pretty easy, though, to pick out who would be the fighters, who wouldn't last the first half, and who had good odds. I also don't remember anyone's names yet. So, I'll have to use some pics. Bear with me.

I will say, I'm happy the older couple didn't get booted after all. I know the token "older" couple never lasts long, but I really liked them.

The older couples are always more comfortable with each other and themselves, don't take themselves too seriously, and don't loose their cool when they fall behind. So, I hope they last another couple of legs.

The other couple I really liked (so far) is the football player couple.

They seem to have a lot of positive energy and mutual respect. Of course, anything can happen between now and the end of the race. But, so far, they're on my A list.

Are you watching? Who are your favorites?

  • Hawaii 5-0 is back!

This is one of my more "fluffy" watches. Which probably sounds weird. But, it's not one of those shows where you have to pay attention to every.line.of.dialogue to follow what's going on. I need a couple of those. :) If you aren't watching, you should. It's total eye candy for chicks, as you can see above.

What? Obviously, I'm talking about the amazing Hawaii coastline filmed in HD. Obviously.

I was also super-excited to see another Lostie on H50 last week: the inestimable Terry O'Quinn.

I seriously squeed so loud the dogs jumped. He's flippin' amazing. Hopefully they keep him around for a while (it looks like they will, *fingers-crossed*)

  • Another long-time fav came back last week as well: Fringe

Now, I know, most of you aren't sci-fi geeks like me. My heart bleeds for you. But, as far as TV sci-fi (not SyFy) goes, this is legit. It does get a bit too gross at some points (so I always make sure I have something like work to keep me occupied during those parts) but it's totally worth it to me. Complex characters, a strong narrative and science-fiction that really challenges your preconceptions. All done with top-notch writing and one of the most talented ensemble casts currently airing today.

However, if you're tempted now by that fantastic write-up I just did, do not start watching this season. You really need to start at the beginning. But I promise, it's totally worth it.

  • The only new-new show I started watching last week was New Girl, staring Zooey Deschanel.

The only thing that really attracted me to it was her. Honestly, I think I had my hopes too high for this one. Zooey is as cute as ever, of course, but the rest of the cast...gets on my nerves. Hopefully this is just opening-show character establishment and they all find a comfortable stride. But most everyone are more caricatures than characters, and that bugs me. However, for the love of Zooey, I'm going to give it a few more weeks.

  • Finally, I want to plug a very special showing: tomorrow THURSDAY morning on the Today Show, my friend Allyson Reneau (who I wrote about here) will be in the 1st segment.

Since it comes on before my wakeup, I will be DVRing it. :) But I highly suggest you do the same. This woman is an inspiration to every woman who dreams of achieving her goals while still raising a family. I am so glad she is getting the national (and international) attention I truly believe she deserves.
So, that's my boob-tube breakdown for this week. I should also mention, Person of Interest, another new-new show, is still on my DVR waiting to be viewed when both SoldierMan and I are home to enjoy it. So that will be covered (hopefully) next week.

What are you watching this fall?

BTW, my apologies to everyone on Pinterest for clogging up their feed with TV pics. But posting something there and then embedding it is the most efficient way of posting something here without Blogger ultra-compressing the photo into pixilated goo.

  1. I am totally with you on being SO excited for fall TV coming back. It's pathetic, but it's like reuniting with old friends and life is a little less lonely. We watched the first season of Fringe, loved it, but missed the 2nd season. I am not watching it at all now because, just like Lost, you have to see every episode in order to get it. Hopefully some day we will catch up on those! A couple of the new ones that I like are "Person of Interest" and "Pan Am," "Unforgettable" was ok but I'm hoping it gets better. I always love Gary Sinise in "CSI:NY" and Ted Danson on "CSI" was surprisingly awesome...he breathed some life into a show that I thought was dying. "The Office" was also a pleasant surprise, I thought there was no way they could go on without Steve Carell but it was good enough to keep me watching! "Parks and Recreation" was awesome, as always. Gosh I have revealed just how much I don't have a life here, I better stop. :) Yay for fall TV!!

  2. Fringe is back! Yay! I have been a fan of Fringe from the very beginning. My other must see show is Criminal Minds. I have a ton of others that are filling up my DVR but those two are the ones I was waiting for.

  4. We've discussed a tad already, but I'll continue here. We were distracted.
I'm with you on New Girl. I was disappointed, but I'm going to give it a few more weeks. Along with Unforgettable. I have high hopes for that one. I haven't watched Person of Interest yet, but hopefully I can catch up soon. I have a feeling that my dvr will be clogged with 3 episodes of each show before I can catch up.
I'm trying out Playboy Club. I'm not sure how I feel about that one yet either, but I'm intrigued enough to give that one a little more time as well.
Have you ever watched Parenthood? That is probably my all time fav show that's out right now. Tuesday nights at 9. I haven't loved a show that much.. probably since ER. Love it. Also looking forward to the start of SVU tomorrow.
I'm clearly a TV nerd too.
