Best Friends Day

According to the internet, today is Best Friends Day. So I thought I'd share some about the people I consider to be best friends.

This lovely lady, A, blogs as The Crazy Lady. We met at Ft. Benning last summer when both of our husbands were in IBOLC. You know how, for whatever metaphysical reason, you just have an instant connection with someone? That was me and A.

Fun fact: we have the same birthday. Same day, same year. I never had a birthday buddy my age! We only lived in the same place for a few months but those few months were pretty memorable. A and her family hold a very special, permanent place in my heart. She taught me a lot about photography and about myself. Now that we're stationed across the country, my mind still runs to her almost every day, even when we don't get to talk every day.

This is SLM (on the left). We also met at Ft. Benning last summer, also because of IBOLC. SLM was my go-to gal for all things political, baby fever and fro-yo related. :) She also kept me in stitches with her sense of humor. Most of my memories with SLM involve lots of laughing. :)

As with A, we got to *ahem* enjoy IBOLC and follow-on training together, and still talk (via facebook) about those "good old days" when we were all together. Of course, A & SLM got stationed together (far away from me!) at Ft. Carson, and now they are both experiencing their first deployment. I so wish we could all have gone together (or, that they could have come to Bliss, because I really do love it here) but you know how that goes. Hopefully we can meet up sometime later this summer or fall (when it's cooler) somewhere in-between. I miss them so much!

This last is a group shot from a couple of years ago, with our best couple friends. Brianna and I have known each other since I was 19, so well before marriage. :) Whether I need counseling or commiserating, Brianna is my go-to gal.

It's so great when your best friend gets married and you become best couple-friends, because (as I'm sure many of you know) it doesn't always work out that way. Joshua and Brianna were our Amazing Race buddies, our Harry Potter midnight showing buddies, and our Disney buddies. Not long after SoldierMan joined the Army, Joshua joined Guard. Now they are going through their first deployment and are about to have a brand-new daughter. Being a whole state and a half away from her right now is killing me. Thank goodness for modern technology!

Well, I guess I really am a milspouse: all my "best friends" live in different states than me. :) But God brings people into our lives at different times for different reasons, and I'm learning - in this way and many others - that His timing is always perfect. I can't wait to get together with all of these amazing ladies again!

  1. Its always hard to have good friends who aren't near by! I just remarked the other day that I realized all my soul sister type friends live states away! But I'm grateful for technology too!

Anyways, speaking of states away its looking pretty good that the Army is going to send me (as a Army Civilian) to Bliss. I was wondering if you could tell me about why you like it and why I shouldn't believe all the pity looks I'm getting! I would email you but I'm a doofus and can't seem to find an email on your blog (or maybe its not even there!)!

    Thanks!

I was nice and didn't turn on word verifications. Please reciprocate by having your reply-to email set and not posting anonymously.
