***giveaway winner announced at the end of this post

Well, folks, I'm finally getting around to posting an Easter recount. Obviously, I waited this long so that all the other Easter posts would already be over and you'd be able to focus on this one.

ha ha

Anyway, this year's Easter was pretty lackluster. We're still getting used to the whole doing-holidays-on-our-own thing. 4th of July last year we went on a mini-vacay, Thanksgiving we had friends over, and Christmas we were at home. I wanted to try and do another party ala Thanksgiving but that didn't work out. So it was just us and the puppies.

It's my own fault, I know, but I find it really hard to get motivated and do the whole big holiday meal and event planning for just two people. If we're having guests, it's easier to get "in the spirit," you know what I mean?

Anyway, it was just us. So Sunday morning we went to church for the first time in a month. Thanks to constantly having a puppy with stitches the last few weeks, we haven't been able to leave them home alone until this last week. We went back and visited a church we had visited before that we were both interested in.

It's an interesting church. Of course, we're in a border town, but this is the first church we went to where the service was quasi-bilingual. The worship service goes back and forth between English and Spanish. It's kind of neat hearing familiar songs sung in a different language (that I'm at least semi-familiar with). Plus I can still sing in English - a lot of the congregation does :) Or try and sing along in Spanish. God knows the words. Then the sermon is always in English.

The service was okay, we're going to go back next week. Then we went home and had planned on grilling steaks....but SoldierMan had mentioned pizza before we left for church (the punk) so guess what we did for Easter lunch?

Oh, and I forgot. The traditional Easter cake. We had to go to Walmart the night before and buy "Easter cake." Don't worry if you've never heard of it before. Neither had I. But I think we have created a new family tradition - SoldierMan with his mini Oreo cake, me with my mini red velvet cake.

Easter was a high calorie day.

The rest of the day was spent playing with the dogs and on the computer, just being lazy and, of course, watching Amazing Race.

We finally got a picture together.

I think that's the first picture of the two of us in weeks. And the first of me at least all month. Usually I'm the one taking pictures, and usually they are of the dogs.

For example:
Jeb has gotten really long, and there's not really enough room for us and him to spread out on the couch. So he's started claiming the big chair. Achilles was in an unusually clingy mood that afternoon. That look on Jeb's face is the "You have two seconds to get off me before I flip out Hulk style" look.
And finally, the last giveaway winner, the winner of the Frames From the Heart giveaway:

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen random choose #1 before! Congrats, Mrs. McGriff! Get me your email address and I'll put you in touch with our sponsor!

Thanks to everyone who sponsored/entered my giveaway-palooza this year! I hope you all had fun learning about new products and bloggers and will continue to visit those etsy shops and websites!

btw, if you have won/sponsored a giveaway and haven't been contacted yet about the winnings, please let me know. I've tried to stay on top of it but with puppy stuff and FRG stuff, some emails have fallen through the cracks. thanks.

  1. is that a maxi dress?? either way it's super cute.

  2. Cute photo!
We did nothing for Easter except for drive home from Washington DC. We were on the road most of the day so that evening was spent doing laundry, unpacking and getting my boys ready for school the next day. Sooo... I haven't posted anything about Easter, mine is lame :)

  3. I love that you waited to post about Easter. Lol. Sounds like a very relaxing day with the husband, which are always great days.

We were out of town for a concert, but I managed to surprise my husband with an Easter basket when we got back. :)

Your picture looks so good. I love your dress. And of course the pups are adorable!!

  4. I love the first paragraph in this post. haha!

The dogs on the couch...so cute.

  5. Cute picture of you two! I love the wall vinyl behind you. Love it love it. We definitely did not have a typical Easter this year. I love your mini cake tradition! :)

  6. Sometimes laid back holidays are nice! We have had so much going on lately that I would love to have a weekend like that :-)

And, what a surprise! I wanted to enter more of your giveaways but didn't get around to it. 2 kiddos and only one hand to type with most of the time made it tough. I couldn't find your email but I know my reply-to is set so I think it should appear in your comments.

  7. That is a great picture of y'all!

I was nice and didn't turn on word verifications. Please reciprocate by having your reply-to email set and not posting anonymously.
