Movie Monday: Dinner at Eight

Tomorrow night, another of my favorites by Star of the Month Jean Harlow is going to be on Turner Classic Movies. I seriously cannot get enough of her. She was so talented, beautiful, sympathetic. And by the time she was my age, she had died. The thought still brings me pause. Dinner at Eight is one of the early "all-star cast" movies, right when the concept was hitting stride. And this is a star-studded cast with the likes of Harlow, Barrymore, Beery and the lovely Billy Burke, also known as Glinda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz. There are multiple storylines involving romance and intrigue, and they all intersect with a dinner party.

Jean Harlow plays the wife of a con man who is invited to the infamous dinner, hosted by a wealthy, socially-prominent family. The husband is a very ambitious man (to the point of corporate viciousness) and she is his equally ambitious dingy wife.

Be sure and watch for her famous line, "I read a book the other day."

Dinner at Eight comes on at 8/7c. Be sure and set your DVRs!!

And keep your eyes peeled, my highly-anticipated Blogaversary Giveaway-Palooza is starting any day now!!
