Friday Randomness

I have the urge to change my hair again. Maybe it's the desire to feel a sense of control over something in my life. Maybe I am just anxious to move on in something. I don't know. Anyway, I've been wanting to do something and I saw this on another person's blog, and I love this cut. It's similar to what I have now, just several inches longer. So I want to try and marry this cut...
With this color job....
On the way to growing it out long again. I used to have hair past my shoulders. Once I get it there again, I think something like this color scheme:
I know, it's kind of funky. But I've been wanting to do it for a long time, and I figure, if I'm going to, I need to do it now, while I'm in my 20s (even late 20s) and still have a chance of pulling it off. :)

I've been renewing my relationship with Turner Classic Movies. The other day I decided to finally jump in and find out what the big deal is about Ayn Rand. I've long suspected that hype surrounding her work is just that: hype. Now, I know, I know, "Don't judge a book by it's movie." Right. I'm the first person to wear that t-shirt.

But really now. I got about halfway through The Fountainhead before I couldn't stomach it anymore. It's a story about 2 self-absorbed people finding each other and being mutually self-absorbed, only masquerading it as individualism and self-sufficiency. Neither of them grows outside of themselves. At least, by the second half.

However, I will say this: if you have any interest at all in black and white photography, you need to watch this movie! I can't find any screen caps that give it justice, but this was black and white cinematography the way it was meant to be done. Every shot is a beautiful picture, the perfect capture of light and shadow in a black and white tone. Really, if you want to get inspired for some black and white photography - and not just decolorize your regular shots - you should watch this movie. On mute. You won't miss anything.

And if you want to see a good movie about 2 characters who start off self-involved and learn to grow outside of themselves, slowly but surely, watch Gone With The Wind. It's a better version of the same story. No surprise, since it came first. It's also a beautiful piece of color cinematography.

And in other exciting news....Chuck is back!!

New season starts Monday! I got all messed up last season, because the last few episodes were around the time of OCS graduation and moving and everything, I missed them in the first run. So we spent the last week catching up. I am stoked!!

Someone from the apartment complex came by yesterday. Why do they always pick the days you're in your pajamas with your glasses on, just lazying around? Anyway, we weren't due for an inspection, or for a bug spraying, and we hadn't put a work order in, and no one had called to let me know someone was coming over with a legitimate purpose. And did I mention I was in my pajamas? So I didn't answer, and I'm glad I locked the inside lock on the door as well because he tried to come in. Still don't know why. Yeah, that was probably really silly of me, but I do not like people coming into my house uninvited, without notice. Yet another incentive to own rather than rent. It may sound odd that I lock all the locks on my door in the middle of the day, but we've had a rash of deadly home invasions here the last couple of weeks, one of the victims being the local Christian Radio host. Safety first.

This weekend begins the Great State Fair of Oklahoma. This is the first year we've been married that we haven't gone. Every year for our anniversary, we have gone to Disney and then come home and gone to the Fair. I'm not much for carnies or rides, but I love the food. Indian Tacos, Fried Oreos, Funnel Cakes, Roasted Corn-on-the-Cob...oh man, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I know Yankees and Europeans like to turn up their noses at fried fair food, but really, there's nothing better. There are only two things left on my list to try - Fried Coke and Fried Butter. Yes, fried butter. :) SoldierMan can't believe it, either, but I love butter. And fried things. So that just sounds absolutely yummy to me. (And don't even try to lecture me on the health aspect of it. Seriously, one fried butter ball in your life, or even once a year, won't hurt anyone.)

In the meantime, I'll have to be satisfied with fried sushi.

Yum....

  1. Oh I do love fair food. The corn dogs, fried potatoes that go on for miles, fresh lemonade... it just goes on and on.
Check your lease about people coming in with no notice. I was a property manager for years. You just don't do that, unless you suspect an emergency. (water leak, gas leak etc.) If they ever come in and don't leave notice that they've been there, that's probably a violation too. It amazes me what rental companies will try to get away with.

  2. I always have my doors locked. Doesn't matter if I'm not or not. I even lock the door after letting the dogs outside.

  9. Hi There! I am an Army wife who just came across your blog today and I must say I really like it!:)
My husband and I met in college and dated and then got married a few months after I graduated ( he graduated a yr. before me) We have a simular story..my husband also worked in a well known business company before all of sudden came to me and said "I hate working in a cube. I prayed about it and I think God wants me to join the Army" So here we are. We have been married a little over a year now. I read that you are going to El Paso...my husband was there for BOLC training a couple months and we liked it! At first it was a little tough getting used to the heat but since you are from OK I think you can handle it. And we didn't live in a house/apt bc he was in training and I just visited. Now, we are in cold. cold, Germany. I have to agree with you that I think there are more benefits money wise when you live off post.
I love those hairstyles! I think they are awesome! Wow..I feel silly I rambled on and on and you don't even really know me. I am trying to meet new Army wife friends through blogging...I'm not a creeper I promise! Hope you have a good day!

  10. OOoh, Indian Tacos!! That is on our menu sometime in the next couple of weeks! And I recently tried a fried oreo and I think I like regular oreos better but I can definitely see how people would like them.
