The Day of Awesome

I don't care what today's date is. Yesterday was my day of awesomeness.

First of all, y'all totally rocked on starting up the giveaway with a bang! However, we're still short of the required 30 bloggers. So head to your blogs and give us a shout-out! And if you are reading this and you haven't entered yet, go here and enter! It's the best giveaway I've ever done! Really!

Second, my brother got facebook. You have no idea how epic this is. (I always slip into teen L33T-speak when I talk about him. It's like when you talk about a foreign country and have to use their words to describe things.) In fact, when he started adding his friends from school, they all posted on his wall saying things like, "C is on facebook! The world is coming to an end!" He's been decidedly anti-facebook for years, mostly out of stubborn non-conformity, which I respect, but not when I'm not living there anymore. :) So I about came out of my skin when I saw his friend request. Fo realz.

Third, I realized last night that I'm retaining water. Why is that awesome? Because it explains how suddenly I'm 5-10 water pounds heavier. (Yeah, I retain water like nobody's business.) I had been frustrated and depressed all week that my clothes suddenly weren't fitting right and my face was like twice its normal size. Then last night I did the math. Bingo!! :) It was a pretty awesome feeling.

In fact, it was almost as awesome as finding out where our first permanent duty station will be. Congratulations to those of you who guessed Ft. Bliss, TX! (or any variation thereof) I am so excited! Back to the land of cowboys and Mexican food, and it looks like it's even plains-y there. I miss the plains so bad. I love the wide-open spaces where you can literally see forever. Don't get me wrong, I'm a city mouse all the way. But looking across miles and miles of land and sky is so liberating. When we first got to Columbus, I was claustrophobic from all the trees. They line all the roads and are 30 feet tall. It's like being in a cage, for me. Give me the bare land any day!

[edit: Thanks Julie for reminding me to add this part!] In case there are any Ft. Bliss peeps on here - we don't know when we're going yet. SoldierMan has to finish IBOLC and Ranger school first. And you know Ranger school......

So, that was my awesome Thursday. And it sounds like we got some good news this morning: the next two weeks might not be as disgustingly horrible as we had thought. Might. Still waiting for the final verdict. But still, it's encouraging!

And remember - giveaway!! giveaway!! giveaway!! :)

I'm hoping you won't be moved by the time this happens but when I go to Benning for Airborne graduation can we meet??? :)

  4. I have a friend who is just leaving Bliss and I think she's enjoyed it. I know, by looking at her facebook, that she has lots of good girlfriends and support.
I'm a Texas girl so I love all things Texas. My husband spent a few days at Bliss coming and going for his first deployment and I went to visit. It has it's own beauty and a restaurant outside of town with a fantastic steak and a fabulous margarita :)
Good luck with everything (including Ranger School)

  6. Yay for finding out where you are being sent! Although I must admit I'm a little sad you aren't coming to Europe.

I was nice and didn't turn on word verifications. Please reciprocate by having your reply-to email set and not posting anonymously.
