Friday Randomness

edit: stupid blogger accidentally posted this thing before I was actually done. Sorry if you try and read and/or comment and get an error. grr.

I know, I know, I've already had one sort of random post for this week. But unless you want me to go on and on about the destruction of our energy industry, I'm going to just stick with my normal Friday pattern.

My dad is having knee surgery today.

I'm not really sure of all the specifics (one of the real buggers about not being home) but it's a sort of exploratory thing, and if they find anything while they're in there, they'll fix it. This will make the third knee surgery in a year for my family (2 for my brother, now 1 for my dad). I think it's arthritis, because it run in his (my) family. His mother has it and his grandmother had it. And as much as my knees click when I walk, I see it in my future, too. I really have some fantastic genetics overall (grandparents and great-grandparents living into the late 90s/early 100s), but the arthritis is one of those flies in the ointment. Anyway, he was supposed to go into surgery...about Noon their local time. I'm kind of anxious to hear how it goes.

I hate not being at home. I've been very homesick this week. boo.

I am not a shopper. At. All. I find shopping to be very draining and exhausting. But I have the urge to go on a shopping spree. Not for clothes, necessarily (although I could use a few dresses and/or skirts) but I need Mary Kay stuff, I need scrapbooking stuff, I want to get some Scentsy stuff, and I really, really want to upgrade to Lightroom 3.

I've been using the free beta version for a few months now and it's AWESOME. Such an improvement over Lightroom 2! But it's $100 - which, yes, isn't that much for professional photo editing software. Actually, it's a steal. But it's still $100 that could be used elsewhere. I have a serious internal battle going on. I wonder who will win...

I had a weird dream the other night that Prince Charles abdicated.
It was a great dream.

SoldierMan is supposed to be off early today. We're supposed to work out together tonight. I am just not in the mood. Haven't been all week. I totally don't understand those people who claim to enjoy exercise. It makes about as much sense to me as someone who says they enjoy swallowing needles or walking across hot coals. I've tried pilates, dance-aerobics, circuit training, now P90X....and yeah, they all work fine, but I hate them. I hate the feeling I have while I'm doing them, I hate feeling gross afterwards - I have to bathe as soon as I'm done, or at least wash my hands. I hate being sore the next day and the idea that I'm supposed to "like" being in pain. Just doesn't compute. But I really don't like the idea of getting a heart attack in 10 years because I have a weak heart (you know, that big hole in the middle? okay, little hole, but still...). So, I do it. I hate it. But I do it. And I'm going to do it today.

Wow. I have obviously not gotten enough sleep this week. I've been reading lots of Harry Potter the last week/week-and-a-half.
Harry Potter makes life suck less.

That's code in our house for "JG is in a bad mood." I read HP when I get depressed/grouchy/frustrated. It's been sitting by the bed for a while now.

However, I expect this will lift my mood:
I am so excited! Who else is going this weekend????

  1. Good luck to your Dad on his surgery!

I'm not much of a shopper either. I only go once in awhile. While it does cause me to complain about not having anything to wear or that the house isn't finished it's pretty easy on my pocketbook!

  5. I can't wait to see Toy Story 3!

I think you should expand your shopping spree to Avon too :) Maybe not for the stuff you like at Mary Kay, but there is lots of other stuff too!

  6. I also have a lot to say!

    1. I'll be thinking about your dad. I know it sucks to be away from home on a normal day to day basis, but it's even more so when things like this are going on. I hope the homesickness goes away soon.. it's no fun! Does your family or his have any plans to come for a visit any time soon?

    2. I am also not much of a shopper and it makes me feel better to hear other girls admit this. Makes me feel like less of a failure ;) I just HATE spending money to be honest!

    3. I will not be seeing Toy Story 3 yet, but I am looking forward to when it comes out on DVD. I want to buy a pack of all of them. I have every princess Disney movie imaginable.. not very suiting for a little boy.

    4. Enjoy your weekend.. even the workout!

  11. Praying your Dad's surgery goes well.

I also hate exercise and do not understand people who actually love it. But I have fallen off of the exercise wagon and am getting back on Monday.

I want to see Toy Story 3 SO BAD but I just cannot handle 3D it gives me migraines and the only movie I am willing to get a migraine for is Harry Potter;)

  13. Harry Potter DOES make life suck less!!!

And as far as working out goes.. I used to hate it equally as much. What I did to like it better was I quit going by these workout routines like P90X and just did what I liked to do, until I didnt want to do it anymore. See, I like to lift weights.. so I started with that. I only did a few reps and even few sets with really light weights at the beginning. Gradually, you get better and you feel like incorporating more stuff, like cardio.. and you're not sore the next day!

  20. I so need to read Harry Potter. Especially now that I've seen the movies...

I know what you mean about being uninformed when you're far from home. I found out about 2 days after the fact that my sister in law was in the hospital and was scheduled for gall bladder surgery. =( Like, really? I know I'm in Hawaii, but a text would have sufficed. Geez.

I think we're going to go see Toy Story this weekend! Joe really wants to go. =)
