Movie Monday (and other stuff, too)

For today's Movie Monday, I'm talking about "The Princess and the Frog."

I know, I'm the last person in the world to see this movie, but we didn't get to see it in theaters (which I'm still a little sad about...the first Princess movie to come out in years and I missed it!) but I finally got it on DVD this weekend.

If any of you haven't seen it yet, it's basically a twist on the classic tale, kind of like Shrek - instead of kissing a frog to turn the frog into a prince, the girl who kisses the frog turns into a frog, as well. And neither of them are happy about it.

I have to say, I was a little trepidatious about the movie because of all the controversy and people trying to turn it into something political, rather than just a new fairy tale. But as usual, Disney pulls it off without being either insensitive or hyper-sensitive to politics - it just ignores them altogether.

Honestly, there was a lot I loved about this movie. The music was so much fun! When we were in Disneyland back in December, there was a Princess Tiana parade about every hour, it seemed, with music and dancing from the movie. I loved it!

The characters are all so much fun. I especially loved Tiana's spoiled rich friend Charlotte. They could have gone a completely different direction with her and made her bratty and unlikeable, but instead, she's got a heart of gold. I love that.

Disney is also really good at drawing clear lines between good and evil, and they did that here, too. In fact, some of the voodoo scenes were very creepy, and I don't think I'd want a little kid (3-6) sitting through all of it.

But overall, I was really pleased.

In other news....

This will be a BUSY week. Forgot I had a meeting tonight, a hair appointment tomorrow, a photo shoot (that I am really stressing about) on Wednesday...and now my mom has decided we need to take a family trip over the weekend, Fri-Sun. Which is a good idea, I guess. And I guess we'll be glad we went. I'm just glad it's a busy week with lots of activity OUTSIDE the house. I can only take so much togetherness, you know?

How does your week look?

  1. We just watched for the first time two weeks ago, Colin had been begging for it and I found it on sale for $13 bucks at target. I know we all enjoyed it. What happens after OCS grad?

  2. How funny! We watched this for the first time too Saturday...Loved the music, and the whole good things happen to those who work hard and wait morale. I didn't like the voodoo aspect. Not a fan of that. Overall though I thought it was good! Hope you have a good week!

  3. Sorry to hear that you'll have a busy week.

This week is sort of busy for me. Tomorrow I have to go observe a group meeting for one of my classes. One of the women and I are going to observe a group of sex offenders. Neither one of us wanted to go alone, and she used to be a case manager to where we are going. I'm sure it will be umm..interesting.

Later this week, I have class on Friday and Saturday. It sucks because I have been off for two weeks, but oh well.

David has drill, so I will be spending the rest of the weekend, hopefully being motivated to clean and make notecards for my upcoming final.
