Catching up....

Boy! Do I have a lot to catch up on! Last night I spent most of the evening working on one of SoldierMan's graduation presents (yes, babe, one of ;) don't worry it's nothing big) which, of course, I can't go into detail about here because he does read the blog on the weekends. But as soon as he knows, you'll know. I have to say, I'm really excited and pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

I also wanted to pass this along: My Pitch For a Youth-Driven Reality Show: ‘The National Guard.’It's an article about an interview Fox News did with a group of National Guard recruits. Watch the second embedded video where they ask the group, not just why they joined, but why they think only 1% of the country serves and what "service" and "sacrifice" mean to them. Sorry, I have to spoil what (I thought) was the best answer. One guy said, "It's about giving back. People have given their lives and been away from their families to protect us and protect our freedoms, and now it's time for us to join and go so they can come home and be with their families again." I'm not ashamed to say, that made me cry.

Also: Sarah - a fellow Oklahoma girl, excellent writer and sometimes I think my twin - is having a Follower Drive in preparation for her PCS to Hawaii (it's okay to be jealous, you'll love her anyway!). If she reaches her follower goal in time, she'll have a special Hawaiian giveaway once she PCS's. Pretty neat, huh? Click the button below to go to her blog and follow her.

AND--

I also have some blog awards and things to pass along!! Whew...when I get behind, I get behind!

The first is from the fantastic Jen - it's a"Tag, you're it!" game where you have to list 7 things about yourself.

The second is from the fabulous Jes, the Beautiful Blog Award (why thank you!) in which you also list 7 things about yourself. So I'm going to combine these too, 'kay? ;)
1) I hate desk jobs. Like hate hate them. I can DO them, but I have never enjoyed them. Being self/employed is the way to go!
2) Since we got almost no sleep in Georgia (odd reaction to the time change, I think) I have pretty much lived on Coke the last 5 days, and I'm trying to wean myself back to a reasonable amount again. 1 can a day, maybe 2 in an emergency. That seems reasonable. Coke is pretty much the water of my mother's family. We had Coke in our bottles. No lie. And we all have our teeth. So there.
3) SoldierMan and I keep going back and forth on a pet. I've been wanting a cat for forever. My "letting my husband join the Army" present last year was supposed to be a cat. But then we found out I would be moving home, and everyone is allergic. And we're on the list for OCONUS PCSs, so now I'm afraid to get a pet at all. Still debating....
4) I'm going shopping for my OCS Formal Ball dress on Friday. My plan is to find something red (my signature color) or black, something neutral to go well with his ASUs. Any suggestions as to style and such? I haven't been to a formal since high school, so I'm WAY out of the loop!
5) I have no idea what I will do when LOST goes off the air.
6) I'm finding it very hard to live in the present. I keep thinking about being in Georgia, setting up house again, finding ways to survive the oppressive humidity ;) and getting plugged into to a new community.
7) I am on facebook. You should find me and add me.

Fair warning, I tend to get a bit more...opinionated...on facebook than I do here. This is my happy place. :)

And, last but most certainly not least, the lovely Allison passed along the Sunshine Award, for which I am only required to nominate other blogs (thank you! there's only so much I can say about myself without it getting to my head ;))

Isn't it cute?

Now, for nominations: I hate this part. How do you choose favorites? So, to keep it somewhat fair, I'm going to nominate the 10 most recent commenters on my blog for both of these awards, since I can't keep track of who has gotten which over the last few weeks. So, take what you want and pass it along!!

  1. I am starting to catch up on Lost so hopefully I can start joining you when you Blog about it :)

It is such a shame that only 1% of our country is in the military.

I am torn on a pet. We just moved into a place with no pets so that puts it off for another year. I never wanted to be overseas with a pet. Too many stories. Sometimes we will get one, just not sure when.

  4. =D Thanks for the shout out! You're the best!

I totally know how you feel about not living in the present. I'm doing the same thing with moving to Hawaii. You should totally get a pet. =) I'm not a cat person, but I would get one just to keep me company. Oh wait, I did that. Lol!

  5. Oh yay! Thanks for the awards. :)

I am completely living in the future. It's like my whole life begins again as of 1 May, and I'm already decorating my imaginary apartment, and cuddling with my (not imaginary) boyfriend!

I wore a pretty simple dress for P's formal back in October. It was something very similar to what I posted about here: http://believeinf8.blogspot.com/2009/09/dress.html

I don't know what OCS balls are like, but I went for floor length, simple, but pretty. I was quite surprised by some of the dresses worn at P's ball... there wasn't enough dress to cover butt and boobs! Good luck shopping!

  6. I, too, will feel quite an emptiness when LOST ends. :( sigh.

However, last night's episode left me SO dang confused...my brain might be needing a break soon.

  9. For the formal - just go with something simple and classy, definitely floor length. I have no worries about you, but you will be amazed at some of the dresses you see.
Can't wait to see what you picked out!
