Computer Woes and Other Randoms

Don't forget to post some questions for my Q&A post, coming soon!

So, small update on SoldierMan. He calls me last night after they finally make it to Benning (mechanical failures pushed their flights back...) and he made it fine, but his luggage didn't. UPDATE: he just called and said the bags finally got there, but apparently some stuff fell out of his bag and he had to buy new shoes and stuff. Crap. Plus, it turns out they double-booked his OCS class...so now they have to compete for spots in this one, and if he doesn't make it, then he has to do detail for the next 3 weeks until the next one starts. (Help me here, is this normal?) So while he's still ready and excited to start, it's gotten off to a frustrating beginning. Anyway, send up a prayer for him tomorrow if you think of it. They are competing based on their PT scores tomorrow. We'll know by the end of the day if he makes it.

My laptop is giving me fits. Over Christmas, the AC plug on my laptop broke off inside the laptop (the male jack, not the female plug, to be clear). So SoldierMan popped it open and superglued it back in place. Yesterday it broke again. The superglue has dried and cracked apart. So I popped open the laptop (how hard can it be, right?) and duct-taped it into place. Now the jack semi-works....but my touchpad doesn't. So I have to use an external mouse until I find someone to fix it. And can afford to have it fixed. So it's still functional, but annoying.

Oh, and the other day, I got a webcam. SoldierMan's laptop (that we bought while he was here at Christmas) has a webcam, and mine doesn't. (There's a story to that, but it's too long). Anyway, so I went and bought myself one. I didn't spend all that much ($35) but I think it's pretty great. Looks better on screen than his built-in one, in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm goofy. And bored and alone. So that's what you get :)

  1. Haha...I do goofy stuff with my webcam when I'm alone too! Nights are the worst here. At least during the day Lucy keeps me hoping.

That's great that your man made it to OCS! How long is that? I have no clue about that stuff. But I hope the time goes by quickly!

Here's a Q...(is it okay I post it here?) Do you have any plans yet for when SoldierMan comes home? I know he just got there but I used to think about those things to get me through. When do you start planning/thinking about that?

  2. Ugh, I'm tired. That was supposed to say "hopping" and not "hoping." :P

  4. Cute blog! I am a military wife as well, been one for one year now. It's definitely a roller-coaster ride! :)

  5. I don't know if it is normal to overbook OCS but it sounds like something that would happen in the military.

    Webcams are great :)

  6. Don't worry about the overbooking of the course. Even if he doesn't get in this one, he should get an easy three weeks (hopefully!) which he'll probably enjoy after basic training. My husband's Captain's Career Course (you'll found out all about that soon enough) was overbooked so he volunteered to take the next one and it worked out for the best in LOTS of ways! It's just one of the "lovely" things about the Army! ha!

  8. It's normal for AF tech school. A lot of guys have to do details for a month or more before their class starts.
