Oh Wow, It's Wednesday!

Only...26ish more hours, and SoldierMan will be in view, in the flesh, if not already in the car and making our way home! :) Gosh, I'm excited.

I got his "last" set of letters today. He's still sick - I've known this man 13 years, he's been sick 3 times in all the time I've known him, and yet he's been sick almost the entire time he's been at Basic?!? - but getting better.

I forgot to mention last week that my brother had his 2nd knee surgery. For those of you who don't remember which, let's be realistic, is all of you, because memorizing the details of my life isn't your hobby my 15-year-old brother had surgery on his right knee back in June. Now they're doing the left. Some sort of deformity with his knees, not sure if it's congenital or happened during those crawling/walking years of development. Either way, he had to get the bones rearranged in his knee. Hopefully this will end any and all leg pain that has kept him from playing sports with his friends his entire life. It's so sad (to me). My mom will go to pick him up from school, and the guys in his class will be shooting hoops or tossing around the football, he and the two smallest guys in the class will be hanging out under a tree watching. He's 6'2" with an athletic frame. He's just never been able to play, because of his knees and feet (a whole other trial he's going to deal with once these knees are taken care of). Anyway, all that to say, tonight I'm going over there to "babysit" him while my parents are at church, since the kid can't even hardly sit up without help, let alone get himself food or water.

But that means I have a LOT to get done before then. I need to make another drop-off at the storage unit, go try and buy SoldierMan a couple of Christmas presents (I hope they have what I want), pack up some things to take over to mom's tonight and put away in my/our future room, clean the house up so it's not a TOTAL wreck tomorrow...I'm sure other things will present themselves.

To close:

I haven't really shared anything from SoldierMan's letters - because they aren't for you ;). But, the last letter he sent, the last one he knew I would get before I saw him, this is how he closed it. I'm a sap, but it sent a thrill through me:

Break out the fine china (i.e. paper plates), keep the house warm and the bed ready...I'm coming home!

  1. So close! I'm so happy for you!

My younger brother is actually having his second knee surgery today. He had a deformity in the left knee along with a torn something that was fixed a couple months ago. He goes in tonight for his other knee, something totally different. It's so sad to see them in pain and not be able to do the things you know they want to do. Hope your brother recovers quickly!

  2. So excited for you. My husband stayed so sick in Basic! He looked like he had AIDS when we picked him up. I thought I would knock him down by breathing too hard. It didn't take anytime for him to get some meat back on his bones.

I hope your brother has a speedy recovery!!

  4. AHHHHH!!!! SOOOOOO EXCITING!!!! My husband had pnemonia the entire time he was in basic, which turned into kidney failure in the last week. He had to go to the hospital overnight and no one was able to call and tell me until the day after! I was so MAD!!! Anyways, have fun :) This is such a great time for you!
